Young Living is such an amazing company that keeps the environment and the people first and foremost in mind.  I have been part of Young Living for about six years and they never cease to amaze me.

David Little, Agronomist of Global Farms with Young Living gave us a virtual tour of The Young Living Farm in Mona, Utah. It was SO freaking AMAZING that I MUST tell you all about it!!

David was trained by and worked with Young Living’s founder, D. Gary Young who taught him the art and science of natural and sustainable production of aromatic crops.

Young Living follows strict guidelines to be sure they are creating the most effective essential oils and essential oil infused products. A HUGE part is following Regenerative and Organic Practices.

Regenerative Organic is a kind of farming that goes beyond sustainability. The idea is to create farm systems that work in harmony with nature to improve quality of life for every creature involved.

Why does it matter? 
Our body does not speak synthetic. The use of synthetic fertilizers began in 1908, this allowed more crops but comes with sacrifices. Most people are becoming more aware of the dangers of using synthetics (chemicals) from growing practices to the effect on our environment to the effects on human health.

Some of the dangers posed by Synthetic fertilizers:
  • Kill the microbiology in the soil.
  • Seep through the soil contaminating ground water.
  • Kills the balance of nature in various ways.
  • Lower nutritional value of the crops.
  • Can have a small yet cumulative effect on the health of people who eat the crops.
Why does Young Living have the most effective essential oils on the market?

It starts with the non-gmo pure seed. 
Every plant has multiple species and each species has multiple subspecies. Young Living researches the specific species and subspecies that can provide the proper genetic expression of essential oils to ensure all the right constituents so its effective to work with our body to support natural wellness.

David showed us three of the Mona Farms greenhouses: One large greenhouse has 150,000 starts of golden rod and another housed 250 thousand starts of lavender. Young living plants seeds in trays in the greenhouses and then transplants them to the fields to grow essential oils. We also had a sneak peak into the Industrial hemp room with 40 plants that will produce enough seed to plant 500 acres of industrial hemp next year.

Seeds are harvested from our fields, at harvest the best plants are held back to go to seed. That seed is then saved for the following years crop.

Some of the regenerative organic practices used to prepare the soil to receive the seed include:
  • Cover crops
  • Organic fertilizers like compost and mulch
  • Amendments of organic microbes
  • Inter-row cover crops
Blue yarrow is a perennial plant with shallow roots. Davis showed us the fine fibrous roots which are an indication of good crop health. I learned that there should be as much root mass below as biomass above ground. I never realized how much soil structure played an integral part. What we cannot see is the microbiology or beneficial bacteria that all work together and are the “caretakers” of the plant.

Young Living has created a “living soil” which is achieved in two parts.
  1. Ten to twenty pounds of organic compost and mulch is added to each acre when they rotate crops.
  2. They add multi-species cover crops each with a specific purpose to fix nitrogen and put organic material back into the soil.
Organic compounds provide the nutrition to repopulate and feed the plant in a way they can use it.
Integrative Pest Management
Young Living understands the importance of using natural and biological systems to manage pests.
  • Beehives are in the fields so the bees can help with pollination.
  • Permanent weed barriers of grass and clover are used in-between the lavender crops.
  • Sheep are used in weeding: They eat the clover and grass and leave the lavender-with a bonus of fertilizing the fields.
  • The releasing of beneficial insects like ladybugs, butterflies and praying mantis who eat harmful pests like aphids, white-flies, and beetles.
Fun Facts about Young Living Farms
They have 9 corporate farms, 14 partner farms & numerous seed to seal suppliers all over the world that follow Young Livings rigorous standards including regenerative organic practices.

Our farms are all over the world and each of them have different climates, different environments, different insects, and challenges leading to different regenerative organic practices at each farm. I shared some of the plants grown in Mona and some of the organic practices used. But, for example if we travel to the farm in Ecuador, we learn it is a tropical region with more rainfall, moisture and its very humid. There are specific species of plants that are grown there with their own set of regenerative organic practices.

Mind over Matter

In a blink of an eye; we have become home school teachers, engulfed in disparaging news-feeds and isolated with social distancing.  We have essential employees who are keeping life moving but fearful for their lives and their loved ones lives and so many others without employment fearful on how the bills are going to get paid let alone put food on the table. This has caused emotions to run ragged, stress levels on overdrive and our mind in the gutter.

Wayne Dyer is one of the most influential people in my personal growth. He said "You can not always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside." 

Now, we are in a situation we have little control over. This does not mean-we can not change our minds about the current situation-because we totally can. But it's up to us. We have two choices. We can choose to live in fear and despair or we can choose to have faith and seek opportunity. 

Earl Nightingale said "Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality". Your subconscious mind has immense power in controlling your life experiences. Your subconscious mind believes everything it is told. 

Deepok Chopra said we have 60,000 thoughts per day and MOST of them are repetitive and often negative or self sabotaging. These negative thoughts may be old beliefs, things you were told as a child, etc...They have been stored in your subconscious. 

Now more than ever, we need to focus on our mindset to get through this challenging time. The best part? We can literally change our mind and therefore our life's experiences. 

3 Tips to Create a Positive Mindset:

1. Affirmations- These are a powerful way to install positive messages into your subconscious. Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations. So if you notice a negative thought that keeps arising; notice the thought and re-frame it into a positive statement. If you are having a thought like: I lost my job and have no money to pay the bills. Choose an affirmation such as these: I am open and receptive to all the wealth life offers me. Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways. I embrace new avenues of income. Now a key to affirmations is you MUST feel the feeling-you can not feel broke while saying "Money comes to me..." because your subconscious is NOT going to believe you. Also you must repeat them over and over, every day. I say mine every morning and I try to say them before bed.
2. Choose environmental influences carefully-Your subconscious mind is absorbing information constantly and forming beliefs based on that information. I never watched so much news until this pandemic began-but I had to make a conscious decision what I was going to listen or read to get the updates I need and then fill the rest with the best. Don't get sucked into the negativity and choose to seek out positive information to read, watch and listen too. I love audible and podcasts for this reason. Decide where and when you will get your news updates and then move on. Listen to music that moves you, read or listen to audio books that inspire you. Talk with friends who lift you up and not drag you down. Over time you will have more positive, encouraging messages are being absorbed in your mind. 
3. Meditation-Quiet space in meditation can sooth the soul, decrease stress and even can help sleep. There is so much research on the benefits of a consistent meditation practice-this should be something you implement on the daily even if you only have 15 minutes. There was even a study done (2012 brain, behavior and immunity study) where 40 adults between the ages of 55 and 85 showed that a two-month mindfulness meditation program was linked with reduced loneliness. " If you have never meditated-there are many guided meditations on YouTube.

As modern society is filled with daily life pressures and endless to do lists, the stress adds up. Topple that with chaos from headlines created to instill fear and we have a recipe for mental anguish teetering disaster.   
I am NOT saying we should not be educated, but rather take what we need and leave what we don't. We DO need to have the discernment to determine what in fact resonates with our inner knowing and what does not. 
As humans, we have 60,000 thoughts per day and have no deficit of creating our own internal fears that can prevent us from living our best lives. We don't need any more help in the fear creating department. 
We were meant to ENJOY this life and we have no room for distractions including fear to get in our way. I don't want to be just a dreamer and a sideline watcher…I want to be the achiever and manifester in my life while guiding others to do the same.
As a busy mom, wife, full time nurse, caregiver and a girl with far away dreams (who just happens to be in her mid forties), I knew in my over-scheduled life I had to regain some peace and clarity. After a discussion with friends on the importance of living the dream life I craved and finding my true purpose in life, I dug into some inner work through meditation and journaling. 
I pulled myself out of the future daydream state and focused on the present, then asked myself these questions and encourage you to do the same:
What excites me?
What do I LOVE doing?
What reoccurring thoughts do I have?
What passion is inside of me awaiting to flourish?
What am I craving?
What do I need?
When you do this exercise, pick a quiet uninterrupted space-and journal whatever comes up-if it doesn't make sense now, it may later. 
Almost immediately I craved and needed to find some inner peace. I remembered the peace and serenity I enjoyed among nature as a child. Growing I found calm in ALL things natures from playing in the woods, swimming in creeks to rescuing stray animals.  There was a grounding and peace I had found among nature and looking back I often enjoyed time alone in the woods. 
I love spending time with my family, from making to planning subtle surprises to epic memories. It excites me to see my kids laugh and flourish and to hear my Dad play the piano and to watch my husband in his "create" state. 
I know in my heart, I was meant to help others who feel stuck in life to truly love the life they live, I don't have it figured all out yet, but I trust the process and starting at home. The reality is we all get to write the next chapter of our book because WE are the author. 
Now I do realize that no two people share the same purpose and that some people seem to know their purpose and rock it out while others are wondering if they even have one. If the latter is you, you do my friend-we sometimes have to take a deep breath and focus on what is right in front of us, the present. 
Finding the purpose in the present is often overlooked but it is the starting point no matter your past, if you know your life purpose or not; living in your present purpose can be the gatekeeper to lessons we learn along the way. 
What if finding the purpose in your present was as simple as the foods/nutrition you ate (and fed your family) to the products you choose to bring into your home to what you put on your skin. What if you chose to enjoy every moment, scheduled that self-care time in to include meditation or exercise or date night. We all want the best for our families, for them to stay happy and healthy and to have a purpose driven life. 
For me, the smell of pure lavender essential oil took me back to that calm place that I forgot existed. As I continued to explore and use the oils, I found the ability to incorporate essential oil infused products into (the whole families) lives to support a more natural, holistic lifestyle supporting mind, body and spirit.
I choose to find my purpose in the present. I love living up in the rolling hills of central New York, watching sunrises, raising chickens and kids,  and continue to build our homestead enjoying fresh fruit, berries and tending to their gardens in the summer and carry nature inside during the winter diffusing my favorite essential oils.
It’s truly a blessed life.

DIY Elderberry and Jacked Up Honey!

DIY Elderberry and Jacked Up Honey!
During my quest of living a more natural lifestyle i found elderberry syrup. A friend found some elderberry bushes growing in her yard and made a batch and I was HOOKED. Jacked up honey is another winter wellness staple that I recently fell in LOVE with (and is great to add to tea or coffee).

Last weekend I attended a make and take elderberry syrup and jacked up honey class-it was a blast, they were super simple to make, I learned a ton and came home with my own stash!

Elderberries have been used for years by Native Americans and even in Ancient Egypt. Today its used as a supplement. In the middle ages it was considered a "holy tree" due to its ability of health and longevity. There are several different varieties and need to be cooked before eaten because the raw berries, bark and the leaves of the plant are known to be poisonous and can cause stomach problems.

These powerful berries are packed with nutrition, powerful antioxidants, support heart health and immunity and low calorie.
  • High in Vitamin C
  • High in dietary fiber-fiber helps slow digestion which helps your body absorb nutrients more effectively
  • High in flavonols -compounds great for heart and brain health

Jacked-Up Honey using only Young Living Essential Oils 
4 oz raw honey
5 drops thieves vitality essential oil
2 drops peppermint vitality essential oil
4 drops lemon vitality essential oil
2 drops orange vitality essential oil
  1 drop oregano vitality essential oil
Mix all the ingredients in a 4 oz glass mason jar. 
Kids take 1 tsp once daily to support their immune system. 
Adults can take more if needed for respiratory &/or extra immune support.
Safety- always use glass jars with essential oils. 
Elderberry/Goji Berry Syrup using only Young Living vitality oils 
Using an Instant Pot
½ C dried elderberries
½ C. dried goji (Wolf) berries     
4 C. distilled water
Cover and pressure cook on HIGH for 7 min.
Allow to naturally release for 15 min.
Strain fruit from berries
Add fluid to Instapot and cook on saute on high and reduce fluid by half stirring frequently, approx. 15 min yielding 2 C. 
-Add 1 C raw honey and stir to mix
When slightly cooled add 1 drop each of Young Living Vitality Oils:
  • Lemon 
  • Thieves- has cinnamon bark, clove, eucalyptus radiata, lemon & rosemary
  • Orange 
Optional- ginger, cinnamon bark, clove 
Total yield = 3 C. 
Store in glass jar and refrigerate, use w/in 1 month
1 tsp for children
1 Tbp for adults

Stay happy and healthy this winter!
With chilly days and unpredictable weather –its important to do everything you can to make sure that everyone in your house makes healthy choices to maintain health and happiness. 

I choose to use essential oils and plant based products in my home for my family. My family is the most important aspect of my life. If I cant get my ass out of bed in the morning because my body aches or I am lost in my own despair-I cant help them. My kids need a mom who is capable of loving them fully, providing them with not just their basic needs like food and shelter but keeping them safe from harmful ingredients in foods, in products I bring into the home. They need a role model to look up to that walks the talk from work ethic to responsibility to conscious living to helping humanity to living a life on purpose. They need a mom who is in optimal health-mind, body and spirit. 

Why are people more likely to be sick during the winter? 
During winter we are more likely to take ill do the fact that most of us will spend more time indoors, giving closer proximity yo the crud like bacteria and viruses to hop on. With low humidity times like winter, this crud can live longer in the air to allow it time to find a willing host to land on. 

Stress is the cause of all symptoms
Our body was designed to work perfectly well 24/7. Specific things happen every day that force your body to adapt and may cause you to fall below the wellness line. It starts with “symptoms” we feel and experience. Stress is the cause of all symptoms in the body.

There are 3 types and you can have to much good (toxicity) or too little bad (deficiency).

Physical stressors-too much may appear as an injury like a sprained ankle, low back issues or anything that puts too much strain on a joint, muscle, etc. Too little would be not getting enough movement, being more sedentary. Fitness and movement are essential in our life and not enough or too much could cause issues and cause us to fall below the wellness line. 

Chemical stressors-anything that goes in the body, whatever you are putting on yourself, whatever you are eating, and ingesting would go into this chemical category. So too much-toxicity-would be eating gluten for some people, or too much sugar, using personal care products and household cleaners filled with toxins that can overload our body, these are things that are body is not made to process, things our body is not designed to have in massive quantity. On the other side is deficiency- this is the thing we can forget-there is a lot of stuff that happens in a day so we forget about the things we are suppose to take and have-like water, nutrients we need. Ensuring we remove the toxic chemical stress and add in those needed chemicals like drinking enough water and getting enough vitamin d in the winter time are again crucial for our wellness. 

Emotional stressors –this is the most overlooked category when we think of our health-you can have too much bad and not enough good-too much bad-fear, shame, guilt ….this is harmful on the body…deficiency on the other  side of emotion-may be a feeling of lack of support-someone not speaking life into you, feeling lonely, isolated-this will also affect the immune system and can cause problems. 

Take a moment to assess where you are balanced in these 3 categories and what needs your focus.

What decreases our Immunity?
In order to live happy and healthy not just during the winter but all year long, We need to understand what can decrease our immunity-when you know better, you do better. Things that happen during a daily basis-but seem to increase during the winter-can decrease your immunity include:

  • Too much Sugar
  • Not enough sleep
  • Family Stress
  • Extreme weather
  • Lack of sunshine
  • Excess alcohol
  • Exposure to the crud, to toxins
I mean just reading this list is stressful!

 How do we stay Healthy?

Ben Franklin said it best...An ounce of prevention is worth o pound of cure. We live in a society where we have been taught to wait for something to happen, an illness or injury and then slap on a band aid, reach for a med to fix it. There is a HUGE lack of prevention. 

You want to do these things because you want your body to work better, you want it at optimal health, and you want to be better.We need to detoxify or remove the toxic stressors and replenish with the things we need that are lacking.

FIVE Tips for Winter Wellness

1. Provide your body with proper nutrients, decrease sugar and increase water. Did you know for every tablespoon of sugar you compress your immunity for about an hour an a half. Also, if you eat veggies before eating a sugary snack-it will help you feel more full AND the enzymes in the veggies will help you break down that sugar. Rule of thumb for water intake is to drink half your body weight in ounces every day. So for a 150 pound person, they should drink 75 ounces of water every day. SUPPLEMENT was is missing in your life..keep reading we will talk about this!
2. Get Intentional movement everyday-everyday move your body-weather it is walking, doing an online fitness program, hitting the gym. Intentional movement of our body is an essential nutrient and will help YOU stay healthy. 
3. Manage your stress-whatever works for you! I like to add in fun everyday-when your laughing you can not be stressed, gratitude journaling at night-where I sit and write out everything I am grateful for-helps me to focus on the good not the bad. Guided meditations and or visualization exercises are a wonderful way to start a more daily mindful practice especially for those whom have never meditated before-YouTube is great for this-search 10 minute guided meditation to start!
4. Get your zzzzz's. A good night sleep can help keep you happy, healthy and functioning properly. I am not a big fan on having the tv on matter of fact research has shown to detach and shut off all electronics 30-60 minutes before bedtime to allow your body to get in more of a restful state. I like to have the last thing I do (with electronics) as a goodnight meditation from YouTube. Also if the room is dark and serene at bedtime-that helps me a ton too and of course I love to add my favorite nighttime oils to my diffusser like lavender or peace and calming or cedar wood and orange. 
5. Start replacing products in your home that could be toxic to you and your family and replace them with safe, plant based alternatives. WHY?

THIEVES is a powerful blend and a daily favorite-from adding it to my diffuser to rubbing it on our feet or spine on the daily. Thieves vitality one of the first oils that our family experienced an aha moment-me and the 2 little's at the time were sick-my oldest daughter asked for the thieves put it in the diffuser, on her feet and in her drinking water and was the only one who didn’t catch what the rest of us had.

DIGIZE-this was my husbands gateway oil-again the little's woke up one morning and were green-we rubbed some of this on their tummies and they and they were enjoying breakfast not even an hour later. This oil is always in my purse-when eating out, trying new foods or when we need some tummy support

GUT HEALTH- Every morning I support my gut health with life  9 probiotic-did you know that 1/3 of our immunity is in our gut? It is said that 85% of our issues stem from the gut-If you are having one bm for each full meal you have per day-that is the right consistency-not too soft not too hard-that means your gut is working correctly-You can take life 9 in the am or before bed but best on an empty stomach with no other supplements -you can take it 3 days per week or like I do daily. There are no essential oils in life 9 and does need to be stored in the refrigerator.

ANTIOXIDANT support: Ningxia red is a powerhouse of antioxidants and nutrients my whole family enjoys. Its made from a wolf-berry puree and wolf-berries similar to a goji berry have extremely high antioxidants and one of the highest fiber content of any whole foods. Made with pure essential oils and exotic fruits, NingXia red supports overall wellness, eye health and normal blood sugar levels.
